The Vengeance of Zorro - Novel by Barry Creyton

The new Commandante’s arrival in Reina de los Angeles was uneventful. Then Capitán Juan Ruelas began mapping his path to political power. He began by overtaxing the people, to finance his campaign. Those who could not pay his high taxes were tortured.

Juanita, the pretty tavern server, sought help for her imprisoned father. She turned to Fray Felipe and Don Diego de la Vega — the lazy popinjay who moonlighted as the masked Zorro, scourge of outlaws and sworn enemy to tyrants. But perhaps not all Zorro’s cleverness can protect him and his loved ones when Ruelas’s oppression assumes a more personal nature.

Through the memoirs of Bernardo, Diego’s loyal manservant, unfold the degradations carried out by Capitan Ruelas, and the revenge exacted by Zorro.

Bullying creates, in some people, a desire to crush it. Often a champion arises - sometimes an imaginary one - whether it be a group of avengers or one superhero. In the pueblo of Los Angeles, California, nearly 200 years ago, a bad behavior had crept in - bullying began.

Then - out of the mystery of the unknown - appeared a boy who promised himself when he grew up, he would always fight the bullies with clever ways and not be a bully himself. He grew up to fight all injustice. He inspired the people to rise up to resist cruelty.

That man became the first masked superhero... Zorro!

The Zorro Television Companion by Gerry Dooley

Are you are Walt Disney Zorro fan? Ever want to know what it was like on set and behind the scenes? Did you want all the show details but could never find them? Now you can with Gerry Dooley's Zorro Television Companion.  Skillfully written, this book is a must have for anyone desires an indepth look into the wonderful world of Disney Zorro.

From Amazon:

The legendary Zorro, the masked renegade who rode through the night defending justice in late 18th century Spanish California, became in 1957 the topic for Walt Disney Studios’ first continuing live-action series and the name of a new American icon. Based on the stories of Johnston McCulley, the legend of Zorro gave birth to the archetypal dual-identity crime fighter, inspiring the creation of such future pop icons as Batman and the Lone Ranger. This book documents the conception and success of a television legend that has endured for over 40 years. The opening chapter discusses the growth of Zorro, from Johnston McCulley’s creation of the character in 1919 to Walt Disney’s adaptation of the story and its 1957 ABC premier, and provides an introduction to the star actor behind the mask, Guy Williams. Subsequent chapters reveal behind-the-scenes aspects of the action show, discussing the secrets of Zorro’s fencing technique and daredevil stunts and giving insight into the cast, costumes, sets, crew and music of the episodes. Chapters Four through Nine deal exclusively with the content of the first and second seasons as well as the four one hour specials on Walt Disney Presents. Plot summaries are provided for each episode. The Zorro legend continued to enjoy worldwide popularity long after the filming of the final episode, and concluding chapters discuss the cultural significance of the legend outside of America, particularly in Argentina, where Guy Williams continued his career as the famous pop-culture hero off the screen.
